The 7th Annual Cannabis March & Festival will be held on Saturday 7th May 2005
http://www.thecannabisfestival.co.uk The 7th May is Cannabis Liberation Day. Marches are held in
hundreds of cities across the world, but ours is the largest of them
all. No other event involves so many people. No other event has a
free festival at the end. The march gathers in Kennington Park at noon. About 3,000 good
natured, funny and dedicated individuals then wander up towards
Brixton accompanied by samba dancers and sound systems. If
you're not swayed by the music or the thought of making a stand
against prohibition just think of the exercise you'll get. The end point of the march is the start point of the festival. If you
haven't been before it's a great day out. There's music, food, hemp
tents and the chance to buy growing equipment and paraphernalia.
We've got a kids area, cheap beer and free sex – well you'll find
tens of thousands of like-minded individuals there, pulling them is
your responsibility. This is our event. It's the one time in the year we can get together,
have a good time and call for the freedom we so richly deserve. So
when you wake up on that Saturday morning in May and see the
blue skies outside your window, remember to do your lounging

The 6th Annual Cannabis March and Festival is postponed until
Saturday 5th June 2004. This is due to a very waterlogged park, (ducks by the Hip Hop Stage,
small streams and much standing water). The forecast is rain with
thunder over the next few days, so after a meeting with the Parks
Dept at noon today, Tuesday, we have been forced to postpone the
event. Nothing has changed apart from the date. So we hope to see you on

The annual cannabis march and festival, or liberation day as we like to call it, takes place next Saturday, the 8th of May. It all starts at noon in Kennington Park where the march gathers. We then meander gently up and through Brixton, accompanied by the waves and cheers of local residents, to an awaiting free festival in Brockwell Park. If you haven't been before it's a great day out. The march is very peaceful and as good natured as you'd expect. The festival itself is a wonderful opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, learn more about hemp, get the low-down on growing, listen to great music, munch on great food or just hang out on the grass or in the tents. Come down, have fun, support legalisation. Oh and bring all your friends too.

UKCIA is a part of the wider Legalise Cannabis Campaign in the UK, we
do not seek to encourage the use of cannabis but to draw attention to
the problems the present policy is causing and the nature of the culture
it's causing problems for. The core team and the mailing list are a
collection of activists - users of cannabis and sympathisers - who all
have two things: An Internet connection and a desire to help repeal the
cannabis laws because we believe that they are bad laws. We believe the law against cannabis causes far more harm than
the plant ever could The prohibition of cannabis introduces the huge number of mostly young
people who use it to an illegal drugs market providing everything from
cannabis to crack. It also prevents any sort of quality control of any
nature, cannabis is not a "controlled drug". We don't claim that cannabis is totally safe, few things in life are. But
people do use recreational drugs and of the drugs they use cannabis
causes the least harm, both to the users and to society at large. We
cannot see any reason for cannabis to be illegal. It is our aim to the tell the truth about cannabis, and that includes
presenting the positive arguments for cannabis and how to reduce the
potential for any harm, should the claims of the government and others
be true. UKCIA supports harm reduction and for this reason we give
information on how to use cannabis. Of course, cannabis is also much more than just dope, the arguments for
legalising it go much further than recreational drug control. Cannabis is
truly a plant with a huge range of uses. We know that the best weapon against the continued prohibition of
cannabis is the truth. So UKCIA sets out to be a store of factual
information and you can find information about all aspects of the
cannabis plant, its uses and the way its used here. Cannabis legalisation is a major issue and isn't going to go away,
the law is changing because it has to.

because the local council wanted to impose a 800% increase in the licensing
fee [£24,000] for the use of the park - Negotiations have resulted in the
council accepting this was a community event [not commercial] and settling
