They forgot to mention the cuts in her skin
The lacerations and the bruises
Caught in the brambles
Of the muddy banks of the
Danube
She awoke to find a land
Enslaved to Jesus on the cross
Not just sin or punishment
But duty-bound humility
And rigorous denial
Had relinquished its hold
On her future
