A slice of moon, far, far away, She shivers in the lake, In sombre shadowed silence, I wait for night to take... The castle walls are crumbled, The portal stands ajar... No mortal man should gaze here By the light of sickly stars. Inside I hear it breathing, I can smell it's fetid breath, The stench of blood of innocents, The haze of hate and death. It sleeps the dream of decadence, Snores the swan song of despair... I swallow down my fear And I steal into it's lair... No-one bade me come here Though this place had stole their kin, All eyes were stone and silent When I said I'd venture in... Fool's cocoons spawn heroes And vice-versa was their view And the man who fights with monsters Well, he weaves his cocoon too... Though it sleeps it hears me coming, Down passageway and tower, Leap the servants of the monster Twisted weirdly with it's power. All of them my countrymen, Once some of them my friends, And I do not look into their eyes As we grimly meet again... Wave on wave, and cut like swaives Of corn they fall before My vorpal blade, that scythes the shades Until they come no more... But all is not yet silent, One dark great heart still beats... Deeper in the darkness, And urging me retreat. Down the passage to the throne room In majesty I stride, I came to slay a monster, But find it deep inside. An ancient crown, atop a corpse Decaying on the throne... I gaze into the Abyss, And I take it for my own. |
